Matt Le Tissier claims that he will not pick Wayne Rooney

Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier claims that he will not pick Wayne Rooney as a starter for the upcoming friendly matches against Germany and Netherlands.

England will play in this friendly games in order to prepare for the Euro 2016. Even though Netherlands have not qualified for the tournament, their presence is expected to provide some stiff competition and a learning curve for some of the lesser-known players. Roy Hodgson is unlikely to experiment with his squad for this game, butLe Tissier says that Rooney has not been in good form to be worthy of a starting spot.

The striker is not in the squad for this friendly games due to an injury. It has been a season to forget for the Manchester United striker. He has scored 11 goals in 30 appearances for his club but they have not been sufficient to see the Red Devils make some good progress under Louis Van Gaal. The club are set to finish another season without a major trophy, while they are even struggling to qualify for the Champions League next season. Rooney has not played for United since the 2-1 loss against Sunderland in February. In his absence, young players like Marcus Rashford have been able to stake a claim in the first-team with some impressive performances.

“You also have to take into consideration the fact that when he’s been injured he’s not been great at coming back and hitting form straight away. The spell he’s been out now is starting to be a little bit extended and you have to wonder what form he will be in.At the moment, based on what I’ve seen this season, I wouldn’t say that he does get in the side. But obviously Roy Hodgson is very loyal to his players, he is his captain,” said Le Tissier.
